Scrap Car ? is it or isn’t it ?
You may have just come to the conclusion that your motor vehicle most certainly falls into the definition of a scrap car.
Maybe it’s rusting away or is a non-runner but what else would make your your vehicle scrap ?
Well as attached as we all get to our vehicless, we are still going to have to make the decision to get rid of them at some stage. Now some of us will be under the impression that although your car might be old and barely runs, it is still of some value within the resale market. Sometimes this will be true and your car will have kept some kind of resale value within the market place but in most cases the real truth of the matter is that it will only have a scrap value.
So before you advertise your old vehicle in the local newspaper for a substantial figure lets run through a few easy check points to make sure you aren’t trying to sell on what is practically a scrap vehicle.
And remember selling on a car as being good when it is not could seriously come back and bite you in the backside.
So if the following applies to your vehicle then you most probably have a scrap car in your possession;
Is your car over 10 years old
Has it run out of MOT
Is the MOT short
Is the bodywork in a state of dis-repair
Does it have any engine or gearbox faults
Would the vehicle prove to be uneconomical to put back on the road
Does the cost of the work required to make it roadworthy outweigh the value of what the car would be.
If you have answered yes to any of the questions above then there is a good chance that your current car could only be able to be sold for scrap and you should avoid selling your car on to a new owner as it could be at worst unroadworthy and dangerous to drive.
By scrapping your car you could make some extra cash. How much cash you will get will depend on on various different factors.
Most scrap car disposal companies pay a rate according to current scrap prices. These prices are subject to change so can flucuate.
Most companies will look to see if you have created any additional weight to the vehicle. This could be household, any non-metal items or any other kind of refuse.
Its always recommended to inspect the vehicle thoroughly before selling it on for scrap to be sure you haven’t left any personal or valuable items in there.
Scrapping your car for cash will benefit the environment and will put direct cash in your bank account.
Before disposing of your car the scrap yard will depolute the vehicle removing all hazardous materials.
This includes all liquids such as oil, fuel, water which all have to be properly dealt with.
To find a reputable scrap car dealer i would recommend searching online or in the local paper.
You could also come across one in your local business directory, just search in car removal, scrap car removal, car disposal etc.
I hope that this article has helped you to make the decision as to whether you should sell you car or scrap your vehicle.
Just remember to make the right choice when choosing a scrap yard to remove your old vehicle. Always use an Environment Agency registered dealer.
