Wedding Themes

So, you have decided to tie the knot and get married but to make the occasion memorable you would like to have some kind of Wedding theme.

You could go for something simple like a colour where everybody has something blue to wear such a handkerchief in the breast pocket for the gents and a scarf for the ladies.

However you want something a bit more for everybody to participate in.

It would be advisable to break down a wedding into its individual parts and to consider each element and work out if each is achievable within budget and to your particular taste.

Wedding Invitations

Don’t plunge in headfirst with this months in advance as you may choose a theme which is un achievable or put many guests off from participating fully.

Once a theme is chosen then invitations can then be sent with a few ideas such as costume hire and venues.

Church / Registry Office or Court House

Where is the wedding going to take place inside or outside a church or registry office? Who is going to perform the wedding priest or vicar or a marriage celebrant?

Consider the weather if outside and is there an alternative close by should it start to rain.

So, you have chosen a wacky theme such as Star Trek will the minister accept the best man dressed as a Klingon and several others with spock ears.

The Wedding Reception

Many popular venues may be booked out a year in advance for popular weekends but also consider if the venue is to be refurbished in the interim. You should ask if the general colour scheme of the rvenue is to change; there may be great swathes of cream /ivory material about the place this year but next it may be a peach or pink.

Wedding Car Hire

Can you get a transport vehicle in the theme that you have chosen? It may be hard to get a copy of the starhip Enterprise at short notice but may be easier for a classic car or Horse and Carriage.

Wedding Catering

The wedding breakfast is also important are you going to have more of a buffet affair or a formal sit down. You can bring the meal into your theme by creating names for each dish such as Dr Spock Soup or Klingon Salmon sandwiches.

Wedding Reception Music and Entertainment

Whether having a dj or band the style of music can be important.

Say you have chosen a local band are they able to play the style of music you want for at least part of the time also any special requests might have to be give some time in advance to allow for rehearsal, etc.

Wedding Dresses and Costume Hire

Check the local costume hire shops to find out their stocks around your particular theme as only a hand full may be available but you may also be able to cut a deal along the lines that anybody hiring a costume for your wedding may get a 10% discount.

Now that each element has been considered than putting them all together may be a challenge.

You may be expecting 100+ guests will the costume hire shops be able to cope?

Choosing a theme which is quite narrow may be hard to achieve but a more general theme such as disney characters may be the way to go.

Think about it.

Disney has both animated and human characters,

The Costume hire shop may have plenty of costumes, and accessories are generally more plentiful.

The bride may be Cinderella

The groom Prince Charming

The best man Captain Jack Sparrow

The brides’ maids Tinker Bell Fairys

The page boys and girls the seven dwarfs.
